QUALITY OF LIFE

QUALITY OF LIFE AT THE UNIVERSITY

Moving from Nigeria to the UK to study at the University of Glamorgan was a challenging decision to make. It was also an opportunity to learn in a new environment. There are lots of factors to be considered: the food, weather, racism, money, accommodation, culture, clothing etc. The Quality of life at the University of Glamorgan will be discussed.
Food is essential for everyone, getting African dishes or food stuff in wales is difficult. The foods found in wales are British or European. This is a big problem because some of the foods are strange, but in other part of UK African food is easily accessible and cheap. The African shops in Cardiff are expensive.
Another problem is the weather. It rains frequently in Treforest; one has to have rain coat, boot and umbrella. It is very cold in the UK; while back home it is very warm about 27° and sunny.
Due to the weather in the UK, one has to wear warm clothing ranging from sweater, jackets, boots, hoods, gloves, long sleeves, thermals while back home light clothing were used often.
Furthermore, the rate of racism in wales is pronounced, usually outside the school environment. This really affects most of the international students in term of getting a job or a house to rent.
Due to the exchange rate between the naira (#) and pounds (£), money is a big factor, £1- #250 which is a huge difference. When spending in the UK, Nigerians are always mindful of their spending because the money is big back home.
Studying in the UK is a big opportunity because the study skill in the University of Glamorgan is one of the best; it improves one’s way of approaching problems, it is better compared to the educational system in Nigeria.
To sum up, studying at the University of Glamorgan has been has imparts in various factors, like food, accommodation, money, study skill etc. it is of great benefits to study at the University.
